In this residency I spent three months learning about and experimenting with ways of using ceramics. I learned slip casting, and experimented with new ways of combining ceramics and waste materials. This culminated in a show at ESW with other residents called 'GRUB'. The installation I created for this was called 'Letters from a Brick', and explored the lifecycles of bricks and clay that had been dumped at a local beach. Some of these bricks had come from local, now abandoned clay pits, been homes, been demolished, and now form a beach; rubble has also been used across the Leith shoreline to create new land, where there are now new homes, community gardens and schools. This installation explores these materials and stories.
